Short Selling Regulations

Short selling plays an important role in financial markets but carries regulatory obligations and risks. The UK's short-selling regime, overseen by the Financial Conduct Authority, focuses on accurate reporting, clear calculation methodology and strong governance. This course explains when the regime applies, how to calculate net short positions across a range of instruments and when reporting thresholds are triggered. It also covers the Reportable Shares List, Aggregate Net Short Positions disclosures, covering requirements and the operational controls needed to ensure compliance. By completing this course, learners will understand their responsibilities and how to manage short-selling activity in line with FCA expectations.
